System Overview
Beck’s Hybrids installed two new solar energy systems at their headquarters in Atlanta, Indiana during the second half of 2017. The power produced from the two, one-mega-watt systems will cover approximately 25 percent of Beck’s current electric costs and provide increased power efficiency for well over 30 years.
Installation Process
Duke Energy, Beck’s, Ag Technologies, and Omni Electric worked together to install the most cost effective and efficient system possible. The systems were installed under Duke Energy’s “Net Metering” program where the excess energy produced goes to the grid and is applied as a credit toward monthly electric statements. Ag Technologies Inc. is honored to be able to provide the latest in solar technology to this Beck’s solar system as the panels used have the benefit of 40 years of experience from SolarWorld-USA and the inverters meet the latest National Energy Code requirements for Smart Inverter and Rapid Shutdown criteria.

Environmental Stewardship
This family-owned seed company has a reputation for quality products and advanced technology. Annually an event known as ‘Becknology Days’ is held at the campus in Atlanta, Indiana. As the name implies, this event is focused on showing the public the advances in agriculture with focus on plant genetics and production of row crops. The decision to install solar to produce a significant amount of the electrical energy consumed at the campus was rooted in a desire to demonstrate the family’s interest in being environmentally responsible, financially prudent and in using cutting-edge technology in their seed operation that bears the Beck name. “When you think about it, farmers are in the business of capturing sunlight and converting it to energy,” said Sonny Beck, CEO of Beck’s. “By installing solar panels, we are taking that concept and applying it to our business of producing seed. One of our goals as farmers is to be good stewards of our resources, and these new solar panels are another way we will be able to do that.”
