The Issue with Carbon
The earth’s temperature is heating up due to life-threatening levels due to the destruction of the Earth’s atmosphere from carbon emissions. This has led to the formation of the Paris Agreement in 2015 to hold participating countries like the United States accountable for its carbon emissions. The central objective of the Paris Agreement is its long-term temperature goal to hold global average temperature increase to “well below 2°C above preindustrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels” (source).
Business Response
The threat of global warming has led to several businesses committing to do its part in limiting their carbon output moving forward. For instance, Amazon has set a goal to be carbon neutral by 2040, while Microsoft has established a higher target to be carbon negative by 2030. While there are many ways to reduce and sequester your carbon footprint, one of the most popular approaches that companies are taking to achieve a carbon neutral status is through the purchase of SRECs.
What are SRECs?
Solar renewable energy certificates, or SRECs, are a performance-based solar incentive that allow you to earn additional income from solar electricity generation. Solar system owners can earn one SREC for every megawatt hour (MWh), or 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWhs), of electricity your solar panel system generates.

Carbon Emissions Information
There are many different ways to calculate one’s carbon emissions. All methods are based on certain assumptions due to the variability of common tasks. The tabs above provide a couple of different methods to calculating carbon emissions:
Carbon Offset Calculator – This form was developed by our company using assumptions made by various governmental sources which can be found on the Calculation Methods tab.
CoolClimate.org Carbon Calculator – This form is developed by the CoolClimate Network, a collaborative project currently being used by over 250 univerities.
